I would like to be able to exclude specific categories, or to only nominate specific categories for use by the component.
We want to do this because we have two parts to our library, and want to have two pages on our site, each of which lists elements from specific categories (actually exclude 1 category form the main library and only show that category on a different page).

Hi,
In BookLibrary you can do some like that:
You can create set categories, check links to every category what you have , and with help Joomla menu create alone menu to every category and hide main link to all categories.
If that not very good for you - please write to sup[port through contact for and may be we will can create for you customer version
