Hello,
I have secured the Administrator area of my site as per best practice, but the Book Library is trying to access this area from the front end, meaning a prompt is shown. If I cancel it, it carries on.
Can you help?

I see the file: components/com_booklibrary/booklibrary.html.php contains links to the admin area. I've commented them out and I'm not getting a prompt. I'm going to try working around the problem for now.
The CSS file can be copied outside the admin area.
I've not looked at menubar_ext.php yet.

Yes if you spend some effort - you will can full divide admin and front end area.
For now we try use some code from admin part in frontend part and via verse.
