Blank Template Submenus 10 Years, 3 Months ago

I've downloaded the Blank Template and have added some articles using Joomla 3.3.3. My Top menu started

getting a little large so I decided to consolidate the menu using a "Dummy" top menu item and moving

some of the other menu items to sub menus below the Dummy item. I read up on the method to do this by

using the External URL type and putting a "#" in the link field when creating the Dummy menu item. I

checked the site and the Dummy menu item appeared as well as the sub menu items. I then tried to hide

the sub menu items (the same behavior this website has) until the Dummy menu item was clicked or hovered

but read and try as I might I could not get it to work. Either the Dummy menu item and all the sub menu

items constantly showed or the Dummy menu item showed and none of the sub menu items showed. I read some

more and came to the conclusion that the function may not be supported by the template. Can you tell me

if this is correct, and if not, how do I get the function to work?

Hello,

You follow this steps to add a new Menu Item:

Log in to the Joomla! back-end.
If needed, create a new Menu using the Menu Manager.
Open the Menu Item Manager in one of the following ways:
Select the Menu you wish to add an item to from the "Menus" drop-down menu.
From the Menu Manager, click the Edit Menu Item(s) icon for the desired Menu.
In the Menu Item Manager, click the New toolbar button to open the Menu Item: New screen.
Select the appropriate menu item type. For example to insert a single Article select Internal Link > Articles > Article Layout.
Complete the Menu Item Details section as required. Each Menu Item Type will have it's own parameters to complete as well as common parameters and Menu Item Details. The common parameters and Menu Item Details are documented here

Thanks,

Thanks for your reply but it does not answer my question. I already havemade menu items and already have several. I'm trying to create sub menus under a "Dummy" menu item, just like on your websites Top Menu. Please re-read my original post as to the issue I'm having.

Thanks Again

Hello, Martin

How do you create Sub-menu, with what link? And how do you hide them? We tested, all work. We hide sub-menu by pressing the tab "unpublished".

Thanks,

I created the top most menu item (this is the "Dummy" menu item - it only is there to display the sub menu items) called "Line Cards" by using the Menu Item Type of "External URL". I set the Link to "#" (without quotes), menu location is "Top". This works just fine. It shows up on my Top Menu and does nothing when clicked. I then created 2 sub menu items that are again linked to an external url (it's a .pdf file). The setting for both are Menu Item Type of "External URL", the Link points to the .pdf files, Parent is "Line Cards". This works just fine, the Line Cards top menu item now has sub menu items "By Product" and By Manufacturer" showing below it but the sub menu items are always showing. Now, I want to hide the "By Product" and By Manufacturer" menu items until the "Dummy" menu item is selected (just like the Top Menu of your website). I then went into Module Manager, selected the "Top" menu and changed the "Show Menu Items" to No. Now the Top menu only displayed the "Dummy" menu item "Line Cards", but the sub menu items do not show at all.

Thanks again for any help on this,

Martin

Hello, Martin

To hide sub-menu you can only using the tab "unpublished".

Give us link to your site, we will look, but now we can not see problem connected with our template.
