You can use external link in Joomla menu.

In VehicleManager component we different views: All categories, ALL cars, Single category.

DO you want below view (and link as in my example)

Ok, I have added it as an external URL, but now I have a long URL ...www.<domain>/cars-for-sale/165/alone_category/52/porsche.

Can I shorten this to just www.<domain>/cars-for-sale ?

With help only VehicleManager component make short URL not possible.

After a year of working OK my vehicle manager component is broken again. At first I thought it was the problems with upgrading to J3.8.x but I'd already fixed that problem in 2018. I am linking directly to my category via the URL option in the Joomla menu but I get a 404 error now. However if I add the vm all categories option via the Joomla menu then I can navigate to the category ok (this is the url I used that doesn't work).

Please help.
