VehicleManager component support

Bought 4.1.36 PRO and tried to upgrade from a free version in joomla 3.8.3 ... as the manual says here

The phrase "And all will work" didn't work for me. If you uninstall the free version, it removes vehicle manager database data too. I've tried to use the free version database tables with the pro version installation but all i got was a mess in the front end.
I have around 16 cars on site now. I can rebuild the category structure and reenter cars again, no big deal, but instead of images i have errors in the front. Only one image is visible for each car. On the admin side i select images, apply them and instead of loading images i get empty squares with no pictures. Above the images on the admin side i have a bunch of errors. This happens on the remote server. I installed the component on a local server and all seems to be working fine, in joomla 3.8.11.
I've tried to switch PHP 7.0 to 5.3 version on the remote server, but no luck.
Any hint, any Idea what might cause it?
