HTTP 500 Server Error - Reinstalling Only Fix? 12 Years, 7 Months ago

First, I love BookLibrary.

But, I keep having to reinstalling.

Shortly after I start adjusting frontend or backend settings, I suddenly get HTTP 500 Server Error and all links, backend and front end go nowhere except to a HTTP 500 Server Page.

I have become expert at manually uninstalling and reinstalling with backup SQL files. Everything will work fine as I add say another 5 books, adjust frontend and backend settings. Then, suddenly, POOF! HTTP 500 Server Errors and I have to manually uninstall and reinstall. I can do this because I know how to use PHP Admin to drop all booklibrary tables and search for and delete booklibrary content in the jos_assets, jos_extensions, and jos_menu tables.

I can backup the SQL files, manually uninstall, and reinstall in about 30 minutes. But I can't keep doing this.

I know you want me to make OrdaSoft a SuperAdmin, but I am afraid you will break something on my site.

Isn't there something you can advise me to do to stop getting this repeated HTTP 500 Server Errors?

Click on the "Books & Journals" link to get the error. Note that the "Featured" modules look great on the right.

Help! Please. I don't want to give up on BookLibrary; when it works it is GREAT!!

Thank you for the Error Log suggestion.

Here is the error-list that appeared when BookLibrary broke last night on April 27 and began giving only HTTP 500 Server Error pages:

[27-Apr-2012 22:47:57] PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /home/grebdnas/public_html/callmeherman.org/administrator/components/com_booklibrary/admin.booklibrary.class.conf.php on line 58

And here is today's error-list when I click on the now broken menu link at callmeherman.org

Something about line 58. I know how to edit php files, can you tell me what to change?

I know you want SuperAdmin access, but I am afraid to do that. Too many things could get broken.

So, please just advise what to do based on the error log list given above--should I change something in "line 58" of the referenced file?

Thank you,

I have been troubleshooting all morning. That means: manually uninstalling after getting the HTTP 500 Internal Server Error by 1) using FTP to delete both com_booklibrary folders, 2) using phpMyAdmin to drop the booklibrary tables, 3) using phpMyAdmin to search for a delete booklibrary data in the jos_assets, jos_extensions, and jos_menu tables, 4) and, finally, reinstalling BookLibrary Pro.

There is a pattern:

At some point while using the backend of Joomla 2.4 to configure BookLibrary front-end settings, I trigger the HTTP 500 Internal Server Error.

Just now I got the HTTP 500 Internal Server Error immediately after selectin "Do Not Show" the "add to my cart" button. Here is the error log leading up to and including that incident:

[28-Apr-2012 13:32:09] PHP Warning: require_once(/home/grebdnas/public_html/callmeherman.org/administrator/components/com_booklibrary/compat.joomla1.5.php) [<a href='function.require-once'>function.require-once</a>]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/grebdnas/public_html/callmeherman.org/components/com_booklibrary/booklibrary.php on line 31

[28-Apr-2012 13:32:09] PHP Fatal error: require_once() [<a href='function.require'>function.require</a>]: Failed opening required '/home/grebdnas/public_html/callmeherman.org/administrator/components/com_booklibrary/compat.joomla1.5.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php' in /home/grebdnas/public_html/callmeherman.org/components/com_booklibrary/booklibrary.php on line 31

[28-Apr-2012 13:52:41] PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /home/grebdnas/public_html/callmeherman.org/administrator/components/com_booklibrary/admin.booklibrary.class.conf.php on line 58

[28-Apr-2012 13:53:09] PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /home/grebdnas/public_html/callmeherman.org/administrator/components/com_booklibrary/admin.booklibrary.class.conf.php on line 58

I have to wait for your further advice. Please don't ask me to make you a SuperAdmin--there is too much that you could accidentally break.

Thank you in advance.

Hello Rsandberg,

In ours country big holidays "Labour Day" so small delay with reply

You need open file admin.booklibrary.class.conf.php - and check line 58.

Or you may replace file admin.booklibrary.class.conf.php - with file from start Book library package.

Look like you set in some text variable - some value - what bow break all that file.

So you may open file admin.booklibrary.class.conf.php - in some editor and compare row 58 in yours site file and in file in yours book library install package

Thanks,
